An online petition to fix the Selby Bypass launched by Nigel Adams has helped spur North Yorkshire County Council into announcing that they plan to carry out major and permanent works to the pothole strewn road next Spring.
The Bypass will be further enhanced during the winter months so that the road remains safe to use prior to major and permanent repair works, The Selby Bypass was completed in 2004 but the surface has deteriorated rapidly leaving a patchwork of uneven repairs. Nigel Adams commented: “I’d like to thank the people who signed my petition as it has definitely helped me demonstrate the level of public concern in and around Selby District about this road at County Hall. It shows what people power can do.”
Councillor Gareth Dadd, the executive member responsible for highways commented: “I would like to thank Nigel Adams for bringing his facebook petition to my attention. We are aware that there has been significant public concern about the state of the Selby bypass and the nature and extent of the roadworks carried out so far and we share their frustrations. .. We remain confident that through negotiations with the Highways Agency this major work may be achieved without cost to the council and ultimately the county taxpayer.”
