Thank you to those who have contacted me about the scrutiny and referral process of local health services.
I appreciate your concerns on this issue. Local government plays a vital role in planning local health services and in scrutinising the local National Health Service’s plans for the delivery and the improvement of those services.
As you will be aware, the Independent Reconfiguration Panel is available to help local health scrutiny committee’s oversight of the NHS, as well as providing advice to interested parties.
That said, I am assured that the Government remains committed to ensuring the highest standards of public involvement in, and local democratic oversight of, the development of NHS services. As part of this, the Government maintains a regular dialogue with the Independent Reconfiguration Panel, and other bodies to ensure that our systems and processes support effective scrutiny.
