You can make a difference

Local Conservative volunteers are the lifeblood of the Party and with Nigel Adams as our MP and David Cameron as leader, the Conservative Party has changed dramatically over recent years. Thousands of new people are getting onboard to help change our country for the better after 13 years of Labour so it's a very exciting time to join us and get involved.

Our MP, Nigel Adams started his political career as a volunteer and it's thanks to volunteers that he and so many new Conservative MPs were elected at the General Election in 2010. That election may be over but there are still local and regional elections on the horizon, as well as ongoing social and fundraising events held locally in the Selby and Ainsty area.

Become a Conservative councillor

Now is a really exciting time to be a Conservative councillor. As an elected representative for your community you can make a real difference, and up and down the country Conservative councillors are already doing that. Independent research shows that Conservative run councils deliver the cleanest streets, the highest recycling and composting rates and the best ‘quality of life’ ratings.

As a Party we recognise and value the role of elected councillors, which is why we want to give local government more powers. Of course all political
parties like to talk about localism, but we have literally put our money where our mouth is by proposing radical measures like the Sustainable Communities Bill and the outright abolition of unelected regional government. These measures are part of our ambition to give local communities real decision-making power so that there is a genuine sense of shared responsibility and empowerment. As a councillor you can play a large part in
helping realise that ambition and I look forward to working with you.

Becoming a councillor is a uniquely rewarding experience. It gives you the opportunity to help your local community and be part of a dedicated team providing key services for your area.

Being a councillor is also a great way to gain political experience and useful skills in public speaking, debating and problem solving.

Serving councillors are a broad mix of people from the local community. New councillors are good news. They mean fresh ideas and fresh enthusiasm, and that will be good for our ocal area.

By becoming a councillor, you really can make a difference to your local community.
