Nigel Adams urges help for enterprise at Conservative Party Conference
|
Nigel Adams, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Selby and Ainsty, has today spoken about the problems being faced by businesses in his constituency at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester.
Nigel said: “As someone who benefited from the Enterprise Allowance scheme of the
1980s and 1990s, I urged Ken Clarke and the Shadow Business team to
revive such a scheme to assist budding entrepreneurs.
“Given the large number of job losses there have been in the Selby
District, we need direct action like this to get people working again.
“Direct action for budding entrepreneurs is vital to regenerate Selby
and the UK’s economy. A revived Enterprise Allowance fit for the 21st
century could prevent a generation being lost to this recession.
“I was delighted to hear from Ken Clarke that such a scheme will be
introduced under a future Conservative government and believe it would
help get Selby and North Yorkshire back to work.” Nigel Adams
started his first telecomms business in 1993 with a £20 a week
enterprise allowance grant and the company flourished. The company was
acquired by a PLC in 1999 and at that stage had a £4million turnover
and employed over 40 staff
