Labour is the Party of unemployment

labour_isnt_working.jpgThe latest unemployment figures show that since Labour came to power in May 1997, the numbers out of work and claiming benefit in Selby has increased by nearly nine per cent.

In May 1997, 1,757 people in the Selby constituency were claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance. By last month, that figure had risen to 1,909.

The figures also show that there are four people chasing every single vacancy advertised in Selby.

Nigel Adams, Conservative Prospective MP for Selby and Ainsty, said:

“I know the pain of being made redundant myself and these are yet more grim figures for Selby and show, yet again, how Labour has failed in their management of our economy and why it’s time for change.

“Labour need to wake up and adopt our plans to Get Britain Working as a matter of urgency. They also need to encourage more entrepreneurs to set-up businesses and create jobs across Selby. That is something I, and the Conservative Party, are committed to supporting.”

“We also need to be doing more for those businesses who are battling away in this deep recession, like reducing the small company tax rate, cutting employers national insurance costs and making small business rate relief an automatic right for eligible firms.”

“These are practical ways to help firms keep their staff and grow their business unlike the rhetoric and inaction you get from Labour”
