The election will be called this morning and Nigel Adams' campaign will be launched outside Selby Abbey at 1130 today

Nigel and his campaign team will be joined by Shadow Minister Baroness Sayeeda Warsi today as the campaign to win the seat for the Conservatives kicks off.

Commenting about the start of the election campaign, Conservative candidate, Nigel Adams said:

“The choice for Selby and Ainsty voters at this election is very clear. It’s either five more years of Gordon Brown’s tired Government making things worse, with higher unemployment and massive debt which threatens the area’s recovery or a vote for myself and the Conservatives with the energy, leadership and values to get our part of North Yorkshire moving”

“With more people in Selby District out of work and on benefits than in 1997, it is crucial that we have a change of Government, especially as Gordon Brown is planning a tax rise that would hit businesses and anyone earning over £20,000 a year. This will destroy even more local jobs and put the recovery at risk. I hope that Selby and Ainsty voters will say no to Labour’s tax on jobs and support Conservative plans to get our area working again”
