Huge Conservative victory in Selby and Ainsty

na_acceptance.jpgConservatives have won the new Selby and Ainsty seat with a thumping 12,265 majority. Almost 50% of voters backed local man Nigel Adams ,in a result that was declared in the early hours of Friday morning.

Voters in the new seat of Selby and Ainsty have given a large vote of confidence to the new MP who arrived with his family at the count at 245am to see stacks of Conservative votes piling up on the counting desks.

Mr Adams polled 25,562 votes, nearly twice as many as Labour's Jan Marshall, who got 13,297. Lib Dem Tom Holvey claimed third place with 9,180 votes.

It was a disappointing night for the fringe parties with UKIP polling just 1,635 votes, the BNP 1,377, and the English Democrats 677 votes.

Speaking after the result, the newly elected MP, Nigel Adams said "This is a fantastic result and a great endorsement for myself and the Conservative Party. To get almost 50% of all votes polled is very convincing and testament to to the hard work put in by my campaign team over the last four years"

"To win my home seat is an awesome feeling and with Yorkshire sitting on the top of the cricket championship too, it doesn't get much better!"

Pledging to get straight to work after being elected, Nigel was speaking on BBC Radio York and announced that he would be holding his first surgeries this Saturday at 11 am in Selby and 2pm in Tadcaster. To book a surgery appointment, residents should call 01757 700026 or 01937 838083
