Nigel offers constituents a chance to create a new law

law.jpgSelby and Ainsty constituents could help create a new law thanks to a unique offer from their MP.
It was revealed on June 10 that Selby and Ainsty's new MP Nigel Adams, has been given the chance to make history after being drawn in the Private Members Ballot at Westminster.

The Ballot gives back bench MPs the opportunity to introduce a new law of their choice.

Mr Adams received his slice of luck just 24 hours after making his maiden speech in the House of Commons after being elected as an MP on May 6th with a thumping 12,265 majority.

He used the speech to address issues such as wind turbines, the district's power plants, local unemployment and travellers' sites, among many other hot topics of debate.

Commenting on being one of only twenty MP's selected to introduce a new law, Mr Adams said:

"It's a great honour to have the opportunity to create a bill that may have a chance of becoming law. I have a few ideas of my own and have been contacted by many lobby groups who want me to put forward their own ideas for legislation. But I would rather hear from my constituents and have their ideas on what would make good law"

"It is important that any suggestion does not include any considerable spending commitment, because the new Government has inherited a dreadful financial situation from Labour and there is no chance of costly legislation making it into law"

"Whatever bill I decide to put forward, I want it to have a reasonable chance of progressing so I look forward to hearing ideas from local people" added Mr Adams

If you are a Selby and Ainsty constituent and you have an idea that for a bill, either write to Nigel Adams MP at the House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA or email him at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
