Nigel welcomes Harrogate Council's opposition to incinerator

Harrogate Borough Council has announced its strong objections to the controversial Allerton Park incinerator proposal which continues to threaten the District.

This is the first time the Council has made public its opposition to the plans, following a protest over the proposals at Council offices recently and is a real blow to the developers, AmeyCespa.

The reasons given for the decision not to support the incinerator were the scale of the proposals, concerns over highway issues, adverse impact on the countryside, concern over toxic fumes and inadequate information in the planning application.  The Council joins local MPs Nigel Adams and Andrew Jones, along with the representatives from the North Yorkshire Waste Action Group (NYWAG) in opposing the plans.

Following the announcement, Nigel commented;

"It's great news that Harrogate Borough Council have seen sense and opposed these plans.  If successful, the plans would tie North Yorkshire County Council and York Council into a 25 year contract that would be extremely lucrative for the developers but destructive for the wider community."
