Local MP- Nigel Adams- recently met with Bloodwise and blood cancer survivors to make Blood Cancer Awareness Month.
Every year, more than 40,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with a form of blood cancer or relative blood disorder. As the 5th most common type of cancer in the UK, Blood Cancers are the 3rd biggest cause of cancer death nationwide.
To help rise awareness of these important issues, Bloodwise hosted a Parliamentary briefing drop-in, where MPs were able to meet survivors of blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma.
Speaking after the event Nigel said: “I understand the devastating affects cancer can have on families. It is important to raise awareness of blood cancers, many of which are not well known but are sadly very common and often fatal.
My thanks go to Bloodwise for their work in raising awareness and providing me and my colleagues the opportunity to meet with survivors and understand the real impacts of these cancers.”
Gemma Peters, CEO of Bloodwise said: “We are delighted that Nigel Adams is supporting our campaign to raise awareness of blood cancer. As 1 in 19 are affected by blood cancer it is vital that blood cancer is central to the Government’s cancer plans going forward.”
