Local MP, Nigel Adams, this morning welcomed the government’s announcement that the bid to help unlock Selby’s Olympia Park development has secured £8.9m of government funding.
The Government’s Housing Infrastructure fund is a £5 billion programme to unlock new homes where they are needed most. Today’s announcement awards grants to 133 different council schemes following highly competitive bidding. The scheme is part of the government’s plan to support businesses and create better and higher-paying job opportunities in all parts of the county.
Having seen the benefits that the development will bring to Selby and the local area, Mr Adams backed the bid by Selby District Council and North Yorkshire County Council, writing to ministers to support the scheme for the benefit of the constituency and North Yorkshire.
Following the announcement, Mr Adams said “It’s fantastic news that the government has agreed to provide this huge cash injection for the area. I believe that Olympia Park will bring substantial benefits to Selby and the wider constituency including housing and commercial development. I want to thank ministers for listening and I look forward to seeing progress soon.”
