Local MP Nigel Adams wants to hear resident’s views on housing following news that a large new village could be built in in the district. Development of the Flaxby Hotel site has been put on hold while owners, the Skelwith Group, work on designs for the 280 acre site which could see the of course turned into a new town or village of up to 2,500 homes.
It is expected that detailed plans could be submitted in 2015. The idea for a new village has received support in the Harrogate Advertiser from the Lib Dems and the local Liberal county councillor John Savage who also wondered whether the village ‘could be heated by the new Allerton Park incinerator’. Nigel Adams commented: I know the local Lib Dem leadership have said in principle the plans ‘seems fantastic’ and would take ‘a lot of pressure off Knaresborough and Harrogate…’ but I want to hear the views of those living nearby to the proposals. If it progresses, this is a major development and local residents views are incredibly important.” The Lib Dems said last year that the council should be looking at land near the A1 for a new settlement and they have also previously suggested that a new village could be built near Cattal off the A59.
Nigel Adams added: “Planning new developments of this scale can be a difficult and divisive issue and whilst we do not have any detailed plans submitted at either location yet, I am interested in residents opinions and would like to hear what locals have to say about either suggestion of Flaxby or Cattal” Residents with views about these suggestions for new settlements or any other housing related issue can find Nigel’s contact details on the back page.
