Selby District’s 9th Jobs Fair

Selby Jobs fair

Business is booming in Selby District. As businesses expand they need more staff and as a result there will be hundreds of jobs on offer from over 30 employers at the Selby Jobs Fair on Thursday 26 September. This the ninth annual event organised by Nigel Adams MP with Selby College and Jobs Centre Plus. The jobs on offer include managerial jobs, technical jobs, skilled and unskilled. There are full time jobs, part time and seasonal jobs in Selby, Sherburn and Tadcaster and across the region including Goole, Leeds and York.

The event at Selby College is free to attend and there is free parking on the site. Arriva will have a  special reduced fair from Selby bus station to the college to support the event which runs from 2pm until 5pm on Thursday 26 September.

This year’s event is also about opening opportunities and developing the skills and career development for the future. The National High Speed Rail College in Doncaster which offers apprenticeships and degree standard qualification in railway engineering will be attending alongside Siemens who are recruiting for their new train manufacturing factory in Goole. The railway industry is a growth industry with hundreds of new trains including the AZUMAS being built and entering service. This all needs people with skills and technical knowledge.

Many employers offer apprenticeships and Selby College is a major provider of training for apprentices in many disciplines. The college will be promoting a range of apprenticeships with local companies. An apprenticeship provides the possibility of “Earn, while you learn”.

The jobs fair is about helping people find the job that gives them what they want. Maybe a job closer to home or a job with better prospects. As an example of a growing company talk to Autohorn, the fastest growing company in Yorkshire who already have 60 staff and are looking for more to expand their vehicle leasing business. In the power industry Drax will be there alongside PPS Power who build and supply standby generating systems for major companies. Following  the recent announcement that there are to be an extra 20,000 police officers across the UK  North Yorkshire Police are recruiting and will also be at this year’s Jobs Fair.

With over 30 companies attending it is difficult to list the jobs available. There are jobs in distribution, retailing, catering, healthcare, power generation, advanced engineering and high tech. The common factor is that companies are attending are either recruiting now or want to find talented people to power their company’s growth in the future.

The event is free to attend. Follow the signs to Selby College.  YO8 8AT

Commenting on this year’s event Nigel Adams MP said “The number of people unemployed in Selby District has fallen steadily since I was elected in 2010. My first Jobs Fair was held in 2011, with one every year since then. They are well attended events and I look forward to meeting employers, job seekers and students considering their careers at this year’s event on 26 September.”
