I would like to thank the National Crime Agency and North Yorkshire Police for their role in last week’s raids on organized crime groups when dozens of serious criminals across Yorkshire and Humberside were arrested as part of the United Kingdom’s biggest ever law enforcement operation, code named Operation Venetic.
Across the UK as part of Operation Venetic there were almost 750 arrests, £54m of criminal cash was seized along with 77 firearms and more than two tonnes of drugs.
In Yorkshire and Humberside the special operation arrested 70 people, seized nearly £3M in cash, 10 firearms, 108Kg of Cocaine and 10Kg of Heroin.
Home Secretary Priti Patel said: “This operation demonstrates that criminals will not get away with using encrypted devices to plot vile crimes under the radar.
“The NCA’s relentless targeting of these gangs has helped to keep us all safe. I congratulate them and law enforcement partners on this significant achievement.
“I will continue working closely with the NCA and others to tackle the use of such devices – giving them the resources, powers and tools they need to keep our country safe.”
