The photograph above was taken on Monday 25 January and shows shallow flood water across part of the A19 causeway which is being reconstructed. Overnight the flood water has steadily gone down and is now 45cm below the peak reached on Saturday. The top of the causeway is now clear of the flood water.
NYCC and Balfour Beatty warned that such an event was possible during the site meeting on 12 January. See the previous report. They said that the planned completion date of 25 June 2021 included contingency for an interruption of this type. They also said that the causeway was being rebuilt so that it would not be damaged if flooded. This event will have put the design to the test.
NYCC have been asked to confirm that despite this interruption that the end date will still be met or even improved upon.
Yesterday NYCC issued a brief press release which can be found here. As soon as further information is received from NYCC it will be posted here.
