Upgrades to the A1 and the A64 to alleviate congestion are both much needed and I have made the case with Highways England for both to be upgraded. There is progress on both and Highways England are now preparing the case to upgrade the A64 between Hopgrove and Barton le Willows. The case has already been made to upgrade the A1 South of Darrington and design studies are progressing.
The A64 is a heavily congested route to the East Coast and over the summer months it is not unusual for there to be long delays and standing traffic. To help build the case Highways England have now launched an informal consultation. They want to hear from anybody who lives close to, or uses, the A64 between Hopgrove roundabout at the end of York by-pass and Barton le Willows. This is an early consultation to gauge support for an upgrade.

I hope you will take a few minutes to share your thoughts and observations with Highway England.
