This is an extraordinary year but whatever the difficulties we must pause to give thanks to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to protect our country, our friends in other countries, our values and all that we stand for.
This year due to Covid-19 our Remembrance Day services have not been able to follow tradition. I recognise that this has been deeply disappointing for all who pay their respect and wish to show appreciation for all who gave their lives to protect our nation.
Despite the difficulties I know that many people have taken part by laying wreaths and taking the time to commemorate the event in a more private way.
It is vitally important that our country can continue to come together to commemorate the British and Commonwealth military and civilian service men and women who have served for their country in the two World Wars and later conflicts.
Thank you to everybody for your understanding and for the part you have played in upholding our traditions.
